ASPCA has a free spray neuter van that is in various locations around the city five days a week. They also do rabies shots for free and other shots for low cost, but only with the surgery. You have to be on some form of PA (public assistance) – welfare, Medicaid, food stamps, SSI, or SSD.

Petco has a low cost clinic at its Union Square store. Prices start at $10 and their hours are 10:00-12:00. Law in NYC requires rabies vaccines and without an up-to-date rabies tag your dog can be seized.

The Safety Net Program is a low cost full service vet care van that is parked at Manhattan ACC Friday and Saturday 11-6. People get there early. It’s also at Brooklyn ACC Wednesday 11-6, 2336 Linden Boulevard and in the Bronx at East 189th and 3rd Ave in the Sears parking lot.
The number is 718-544-PETS. Website is www.718544pets.org

The Humane Society of NY also does low cost care but they are hard to access. You have to pay for the appointment ahead of time with a credit or debit card which is $15 and if you miss the appointment you don’t get your money back.

Graffiti Church (over on E. 7th St. between Avenues B and C) does meals on Wednesdays at 6:00 and they usually have dog food and resources for vet care.

Ask your veterinarian if he/she can offer you a payment plan that would allow you to pay the bill over time.

Care Credit

Care Credit is a line of credit that can be used for veterinary bills (and human medical and dental bills). It offers a no-interest loan if paid off within two years. Ask your veterinarian if they accept Care Credit or if they would like to. (Some veterinary offices provide literature and an application for Care Credit.) They take instant applications over the phone, so if your veterinarian already accepts it, you can apply on the spot.
