On the Street Essentials
- Always hide supplies that make you look homeless
- Never give the appearance of being homeless you will be harassed by the cops and store owners and the general public
- Carry wash rag, quick dry towel, deodorant, tooth brush, paste, soap
- Drink lots of water
- If squatting, don’t leave anything when you leave in the morning, it will blow your spot
- Travel light with ID – no ID means getting arrested in New York City
- Carry high protein food like nuts & peanut butter
- Schedule your time around soup kitchen meals
- Sleep deprivation is inevitable, but “always keep a blanket” sleep with a group of people to be safe whenever possible
- Learn food places or dumpster food bins
- Only keep what you can carry in a duffel bag
